TNA: Bring Back the Old-School Jeff Hardy and Bully Ray We Know and Love

David LevinDec 15, 2011

Don’t ever ask me to apologize for liking old-school feuds and matches.

They are what make wrestling so great.

For all the times we want to see our heroes from the past get in the ring, we risk the opportunity of being disappointed.

And in the case of Bully Ray and Jeff Hardy, this is one writer who hopes the past can emulate the present.

But, it is highly unlikely.

When Buh-Buh Ray and Hardy were part of some of the greatest tag teams and tag team matches of the past 15 years, we loved the drama and the charisma these two put forth in their teams, leading them to success.

Now, as they are in different organizations and have different roles within the company, they still bring the brand of flair we have come to love, but in different segments.

Hardy is still the risk taker and flier we love, while Ray is more tactful and grounded. He is not as risky as in years past. This move has come to help him become more of a singles competitor and hopefully future champion.

When the two meet tonight on Impact Wrestling, maybe they can kick the doors down from 2001 and give us what we want to see; two bad asses who don’t know the meaning of the word quit.

Can they deliver like they have in the past? Will they be able to shine on their own, or will thugs like Scott Steiner and Gunner get in the way? Will Abyss stay away from the ring or will he come to the “Charismatic Enigma’s” aid?

Matches like Sting and Ric Flair, Hogan and Sting and even this one tug at the heartstrings of wrestling purists because we want to see greatness, and that does not always happen.

We want to see Sting/Flair from 2000. We want to see Sting and Angle when they were at their height of greatness. We want to see The Dudleys and Hardys fight in a tables, ladders and chairs match.

It just makes sense to us. It is what we have to remember from and what we have to live on.

Because of their age and their ability, this may be as close to a revival of those theories. Both men can still bring it to the table. Both men can captivate us and give us hope.

But then again, the more we get our hopes up, the more likely we are to be disappointed.

And with Ray and Immortal, we know anything is possible.

I guess we will just have to wait and see.
