Aaron Rodgers Is Better Than Brett Favre Ever Was. Period.

B RodDec 16, 2011

Anyone watching the NFL knows the type of season that Aaron Rodgers is having has rarely ever been matched. Perhaps only Tom Brady in 2007, Peyton Manning in 2004 and Dan Marino in 1984 are comparable to what he's doing right now. However, there is an important asterisk to attach to those seasons: None of these quarterbacks led their teams to win the Super Bowl.

Brett Favre´s best seasons were 1995, 1996 and 2009

Unless something unusual happens, he will break most Packers single-season records that Brett Favre currently holds. But there is something more important: The Packers are undefeated. Brett Favre's best seasons in the win column were 1996 and 1997, when the Packers also had 13 wins.

Aaron Rodgers has already caught up to Brett Favre in the rings department, and if they were to win this season, which is a very real possibility (although ask the 2007 Patriots, 2005 Colts etc. about how seemingly inevitable champions fall up short), he would move past Favre in that department too.

But there is another category, which is more subjective and harder to support with evidence, that makes me believe in Rodgers' superiority. When I see Aaron Rodgers play, I see someone playing at a level at which I have rarely, if ever, seen any other quarterback play. He has the ability to beat you with his arm and his feet. He may not be Michael Vick, but he has that added advantage that other great quarterbacks don't have. He rarely makes big mistakes like Favre did, and he seems to be immune to defense.

The verdict on Rodgers is yet to be determined regarding his place in history, but if he guides his team to a win in Indianapolis this season, there should be no doubt that he has surpassed Favre. To me he already has, but another ring should solidify his status among those who are not yet convinced.
