Chris Paul: The Clippers Will Be a Top 5 Seed in the Weaker Western Conference

Joshua CarrollDec 14, 2011

In recent news, all sources point to the Chris Paul trade to the Clippers finally going through.

The Clippers will trade Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, and Al-Farouq Aminu for Paul and two future second round picks.

There are many discussions to be had now that it looks like the trade will finally go through, including just how good will the clippers be.

Don't forget, the Clippers claimed Chauncey Billups recently. Will the two be able to co-exist? Will they both start?

I believe that both Paul and Billups will start alongside each other in the backcourt. That will result in two playmakers able to stretch the floor, and create their own shot starting in the backcourt.

Not to mention, both would serve as great compliments to Blake Griffin in the pick and roll.

Needless to say, there has been a surge of power moving towards the Eastern conference.

However, this move of Chris Paul to the Clippers, creates another team to be able to give the beast of the East trouble when they meet up.

The Clippers will not become immediate contenders, but just look at what Chris Paul was capable of doing with the Hornets. The way he was able to carry an inept team against the likes of the Lakers in the playoffs.

Although he has never advanced far in the playoffs, Paul has always been able to get his team there and compete when the bright lights are on.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Clippers will make the playoffs considering the fact, that Paul is still clearly one of the best point guards in the league.

The combination of Paul and Griffin might serve to be one of the most exciting duos to ever play the game. We can only hope that Paul decides to stay with the Clippers even after his contract expires.

Call it what you will, but I have already labeled this connection one similar to Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp or even John Stockton and Karl Malone on steroids.

Granted, the Clippers are not very deep. Yet, the core that they have now assembled will be more than enough to compete in the NBA.

Oh, did you forget the Clippers acquired Caron Butler too? A deadly slasher who will compliment the explosive game of Blake Griffin.

On paper, the Clippers look better than they have in a long time, possibly ever.

Step aside Lakers, the Clippers might just be the team to watch at Staples this year. Let me stop before I get myself into trouble.

This is the biggest development in Clipper history (that's not saying much), and I expect the Clippers to come out the gates hard and fast. Maybe even advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Don't take my word for it. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Because I assure you the Clippers will be able to put one on with the team, that is ready to step onto the court.

With Chris Paul at the reigns, there's no telling what's next for the Clippers.

Will he be enough to lure Dwight Howard during free agency?

Will we ever see a front court featuring Caron Butler, Blake Griffin, and Dwight Howard?

We are going to have to wait and see what the future holds.

But as of now, Chris Paul makes the Clippers immediate competitors.
