Why Chris Paul Makes the LA Clippers the Most Dangerous Team in NBA
The NBA has a new offensive beast to concern themselves with. The Los Angeles Clippers are on the verge of finalizing a deal for All-Star point guard Chris Paul.
Paul is the game's best point guard, and he is now joining one of the association's most exciting players in Blake Griffin. And those two aren't the only weapons on this young and loaded team.
Before we get into this team's potential, let's take a look at the deal that is expected to be finalized soon.
The Deal
ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted the deal.
Stein reported in print that he is from sources that the Clippers will also receive two future second-round selections.
Clippers' Potential
Paul will give the Clippers exactly what they need. Paul brings his masterful penetration and passing skills to a frontcourt that features one of the NBA's most explosive players in Blake Griffin.
Paul and Griffin will also be an amazing foundation for a two-man game. Paul is an excellent outside shooter, and his command of the flow of the game will allow him to get Griffin the ball in a position to do some serious damage.
Paul's penetration leaves opposing frontcourts scrambling to stop him from getting to the rim. This is going to leave Griffin free to roam. He will be able to set up for gravity-defying alley-oops or to clean up the rim on offensive rebounds.
What is going to make this possible is that the Clippers' frontcourt offers much more than Griffin. Teams won't be able to focus on just Paul and Griffin.
Caron Butler will be able to stretch his man out with his outside shooting touch, and center DeAndre Jordan will be there for dunk and rebounding opportunities as well.
Paul's presence is going to raise everyone's offensive output, and help this offense flourish in half court sets. Defenses are going to be forced to pick their poison when playing the Clippers. It is going to be hard to double down on anyone player.
It is in the open court where this team be at its frightening best. This is an athletic squad. There is not another team that will be able to keep up with the Clippers when they get out and run.
This is is still a young squad that will likely show some signs of immaturity. However, with a general like Paul on the floor, those fits of folly will not be prolonged.
There is not another team in the league that can match the Clippers' athleticism and explosiveness. It is a whole new world in Clipperville.
