Blue Jays Interested in Carlos Beltran: Why All the Interest in Outfielders?
This comes as a small shock, but why is Alex Anthopoulos and the Toronto Blue Jays interested in the services of Carlos Beltran? He has lost all of his ability on the base paths that made him quite the threat.
A CBSsports.com article stated today that the Blue Jays are interested in the services of Beltran as well as the Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals.
It is pretty evident why both the Cards and Rockies would be interested in Beltran, but I donโt quite see the need to spend a ton of money on an aging, on his last legs, outfielder when we are a year or two from serious contention in the AL?

Nightmare Scenarios for Teams ๐ฑ
I am convinced that Alex Anthopoulos is up to something and we really donโt know what that is at this point. I think it will become quite clear after the Yu saga has finalized tonight (click here to read my article on Yu Darvish and the posting process).
I would love to hear why the Jays are interested in Beltran. He would clog up the outfield even more than Ben Francisco does. He would halt the progression of Thames and Snider in left, disallow KJ from playing left as well as anyone younger prospects if he is here for a couple of years.
I wouldnโt complain per-say if we picked up a .300 hitter with 22 HR and 84 RBI and a great K/BB ratio, unless it was for multiple years and was quite expensive. Would he really give us THAT much more than Thames? I donโt think it would be wise to spend money for that minor of an upgrade.
Then there is the money. Beltran had a great comeback season last year (as I predicted and grabbed him in every fantasy draft very late) after many seasons of knee injuries. I wouldnโt want to risk having this bad contract on my hands.
Either way, AA is up to something and I really want to know what it is. Guessย we will have to wait until the Yu situation is finalized.
