Tim Tebow: Why Denver Broncos' Star QB Doesn't Deserve Such High Praise

Eric BowmanDec 14, 2011

There's no denying Tim Tebow is achieving amazing things with his late-game heroics, but he shouldn't be given all the love, because he isn't the sole reason the Denver Broncos are winning.

Sure, Tebow is putting the Broncos in position to score in the final minutes, but there are so many other components to Denver's recent success.

Of course, Tebow is the first to give the glory to God and then to his teammates, but everyone else just wants to give all the credit to the quarterback.

Evidence of this is how much ESPN talks about him, as well as other media outlets. It's understandable why they do so—he is the leader and such a controversial subject because of his style of play—but people fail to realize that the Broncos as a whole are doing great things.

Without a clutch kicker in Matt Prater, the Broncos wouldn't be 8-5 and in first place of the AFC West division.

Since Tebow took over the starting QB role in Week 7, Prater has made five field goals in the closing minutes of the game or overtime, and three of those were from 50 or more yards.

It's a completely different season if Prater isn't performing at such a high level.

One could argue that Tebow's winning ways and supreme confidence has motivated his teammates to play better, and while that is likely true, Tebow isn't on defense making plays or catching errant passes.

In fact, in the Broncos' last eight games, the defense hasn't given up any big touchdown plays late in the game, which has kept the team competitive.

The defense has also had six sacks in the final minutes of the game during that time period.

So before you anoint Tebow as such a mighty QB, don't forget that the entire team is coming together to play well.

Without Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, Champ Bailey and others elevating their game, the Broncos would be in a world of trouble and Tebow wouldn't be seen as this outstanding quarterback.

Once Tebow dominates a game for all four quarters, then he's worthy of the praise he's been getting. Until then, make sure to give the defense and special teams some extra love as well.
