WWE Tribute to the Troops Results: Top 10 Moments from Last Night
WWE Tribute to the Troops was last night, and I really enjoyed it. The show had a different "feel" to it than usual, but that was a welcome surprise.
Truth be told, I wasn't going to review this special. However, WWE formatted the show to include storyline advancement, unlike past years. Thus, I felt it was needed. Here are the top 10 moments!
10. Special Messages
1 of 10We saw many special shout outs to the troops, and it was a very nice treat. We saw the Muppets! We saw Robin Williams. We even got a Celine Dion sighting.
Everybody did a great job, and it was well done.
9. Diva's Match
2 of 10I had no problem with the celebrity getting a pin over Beth Phoenix, Natalya and the Bella Twins. It was nicely done, and she deserves plenty of credit for having a good performance.
Outside of that, Alicia Fox once again had a superb night. She is such a wonderful talent, and I look forward to seeing her inevitable match with the Diva's champion!
8. Zack Ryder's Night
3 of 10Zack Ryder had a good night as well. It was not anything special before his big PPV match on Sunday, but it did its job.
He was very close to becoming the comedy figure I wish he moved away from, but his interactions with Slaughter were fun. Picking up a win over Jack Swagger was fine, and he almost has to win at TLC over Dolph Ziggler!
7. Wade vs. Orton
4 of 10Randy Orton and Wade Barrett have had tons of matches against each other, but I have liked every single one, so a final match before Sunday's gimmick battle was fine. They did not do too much, but the story was progressed. Of course, the match did not get a definite winner. That is what the PPV is for!
Wade cut a great promo afterwards. Even David Otunga got involved, and he played his role perfectly yet again. That man is slowly winning me over more and more.
Nice job guys!
6. Air Boom Lose
5 of 10First, let me state how great Rosa looked last night. Second, I like the aspect of a new tag team in the company. Epico, Primo and Rosa (and Hunico?) are great in the ring.
Sadly, I did not like the outcome. I understand giving the new guys a win over the champs, but this was not the show to do that. Every single face should have won at this event, including Air Boom.
Again, I am all for a new feud, but this special show should have had all the "good guys" win. Just my opinion, folks!
5. Sheamus vs. Drew
6 of 10Nice touch with Christian being there for a little bit. I did not like his "Canada" promo because it such a cheap ploy. He is above using such a tactic.
I did enjoy how that transitioned right into a Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre match. Yes, it was basically a squash, but I liked it a lot.
It gave Drew some much-needed TV time, as he is going to be a big star one day. One month from now. One year from now. Ten years from now. It doesn't matter. One day...
Lastly, Sheamus needs to keep winning. He is one of the next big stars of this industry, and every win helps. Great use of both men here!
4. Booker T Was Great
7 of 10Cody Rhodes fought Daniel Bryan in a nice little match. It was exactly the "spot" I want Bryan to be in for the next month or two. He will get his WrestleMania opportunity (I hope), so there is no reason for him to be anywhere near the main event scene right now.
This entire segment was designed to get over the Cody vs. Booker feud, and I thought WWE did an excellent job. They put over how Booker T shouldn't be getting involved, yet at the same time, they gave him a reason to do so.
It was a small touch, but I also loved Cody's reaction to losing the match from a quick roll-up. It was brilliant. I am looking forward to their match on Sunday!
3. Extra Segments
8 of 10I loved the musical performances.
Nickelback was my favorite act of the night. George Wallance was funny, and every other celebrity live in the arena did a fine job last night.
Also, the WWE Superstars jumping out of that aircraft was just amazing to watch. All of the video packages were well done, and I liked them throughout the show.
2. The Main Event
9 of 10This was what they call a "house show" match. I do not say that as an insult, but for those of you who have ever been to a house show, you know what I mean.
The heels hit all their moves without doing anything dangerous (to avoid injury). Then the faces hit all the big moves at the end, and the crowd goes home happy. It is a simple formula, and it works!
The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Mark Henry took care of the heel side. John Cena, CM Punk and Big Show took care of the face side.
As I mentioned earlier, every single face should have won last night. No way you can convince me otherwise. Period.
The main event was perfect for the live audience. The faces posed with the fans, and Cena cut a great promo afterwards. Amazing final segment.
Exactly how the night should have ended!
1. Thank You to the Troops!
10 of 10Thank you to the troops for doing what you do. Thank you to all the brave men and women for everything! Thanks over and over and over!
This night was not about who "won" or "lost" a wrestling match. This wasn't about a PPV on Sunday. This was not about the "work rate" from the event. That was not what is most important here.
It was about WWE giving back in any possible to all the real heroes. All the true "superstars!" Thank you again to all the troops in every single way possible. Thank you!
REMINDER: I am now on Twitter @JustinWatry! Feel free to add me, as I give every follower a special shout out...thanks.
