Chicago Bulls: Is Derrick Rose Scaring Away Other Stars
Why do no other NBA stars want to come to Chicago and play alongside Derrick Rose?
Last summer it was LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
Now it is Dwight Howard.
According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, Dwight Howard is willing to sign an extension with four teams, the Lakers, Nets, Magic and Mavericks. Why no Bulls?
Aren't the Bulls an attractive destination?
The Bulls play in a major market, have a rich history and have no problem paying when it comes to winning.
Chicago has Derrick Rose, the reigning MVP. Coach Tom Thibodeau was the Coach of the Year last season. They had the best record in the league last season and made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.
Maybe other players don't like Rose's "join us or we'll beat you" attitude.
Maybe they are just waiting for Rose to pick up a phone and ask them to come and join him. Why won't Rose try to recruit?
I have a different idea on why guys don't want to join the Bulls.
Superstar players don't want to be second fiddle to Derrick Rose.
No matter who joins this team it belongs to Rose. He will always be the alpha dog no matter if Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant or LeBron James came to town.
Another reason might have something to do with Rose being younger than these players
Even though Rose has been an All-Star and has played for Team USA, he really isn't their peer. Rose's peers are Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant, not LeBron and company.
Last summer it was all about Wade, James and Bosh joining forces together. Next it was Chris Paul saying at Carmelo Anthony's wedding that they would like to play together.
All of these big superstars were drafted between 2003 and 2005. Rose was drafted in 2008.
Unlike some people, I don't see a problem in Rose not recruiting. I don't remember Michael Jordan or Scottie Pippen calling free agents begging them to join the Bulls.
Gar Foreman and John Paxson have put together a very solid team and if we only learned one thing last season it is a team can beat a collection of superstars.
Let Dwight Howard stay in Orlando or join with the Brooklyn Nets or team up with aging superstars like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki. Derrick Rose will be just fine with Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah and the "Bench Mob" and we should all be as well.
