NFL Power Rankings: Falling Teams That Have Yet to Hit Bottom

Richard LangfordDec 13, 2011

With three weeks left in the season, all three of these teams will end up lower than they already are. These teams are on a downward spiral, and they are only halfway down the slide.

Three weeks ago the 49ers were No. 2. They have since lost two of their last three games. And they have a game coming up against Pittsburgh.

The Steelers have a defense very similar to the Ravens defense that limited the 49ers to just six points on Thanksgiving.

The 49ers will not be able to control the ball running on the seventh-ranked Steelers rush defense. This will force them into passing downs, and allow the Steelers to do what they do best: rush the passer and play pass defense.

The Steelers have the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL. This will net the Steelers some turnovers and set them up with a short field. The Steelers will win if Ben Roethlisberger plays or not.

The 49ers will then hit the road for their final two games. Both of those games are extremely winnable, but that means a win won't boost them in the power rankings.

The 49ers will not be able to get past the passing prodigious Saints or Packers in the second round of the NFC playoffs. This will leave confined to a ranking below No. 6.

Remaining Schedule

Week 15: Steelers

Week 16: at Seahawks

Week 17: at Ram

Predicted Finish: No. 8

The Bills are not going to win another game this season, and their impressive free-fall down the rankings will keep on rolling.

Buffalo has currently lost six straight, and they have looked terrible in most of those games. When they get done with the below schedule their streak will be at nine games.

Remaining Schedule

Week 15: Dolphins

Week 16: Broncos

Week 17: at Patriots

The Bills won't be able to score on the Dolphins or Broncos. Their offense has disintegrated since Fred Jackson was lost to injury. The pass rush of both of those teams will destroy the Bills offensive line and leave Ryan Fitzpatrick helpless.

They will then close the season to a Patriots team that will be eager to pay them back for the Week 2 upset loss, and will be prepared to destroy the Bills awful defense.

Predicted Finish: 28

The good news for the Buccaneers is that there isn't far to go from No. 28. The bad news is that they will still fall.

Tampa Bay has been the most embarrassing team in football the past two weeks. They have lost to the Jaguars and Panthers by a combined 79-33.

Their woes are not going away anytime soon. This team has all the looks of a team that has mailed it in. Look at their schedule, and it is clear they aren't winning again this year.

Remaining Schedule

Week 15: Cowboys

Week 16: at Panthers

Week 17: at Falcons

The one game on there you'd think they had a chance in is the Panthers, but seeing as how Carolina just dismantled them you'd be thinking wrong.

If it wasn't for the miraculously terrible Colts and Rams, the Bucs would be last by the end of the season.

Predicted Finish:  No. 30
