NFL Playoff Predictions: 3 Reasons Green Bay Packers Will Hoist Lombardi Again

Michael DixonDec 13, 2011

The best team in the NFL is the Green Bay Packers. They're undefeated, and no other team has fewer than three losses. Green Bay is the reigning champions and doesn't appear on its way to being slowed down.

When the playoffs roll around, the Packers will have a lot of things working in their favor. Here are the three main things that will take the Packers to the Super Bowl, and then to another win.

Lambeau Field

The Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field has not been kind to teams playing the Packers in the past. Barring an absolute catastrophe, the NFC playoffs will go through Lambeau Field. That bodes well for the Packers.

The Saints did give the Packers a good game at Lambeau on the NFL's opening night, but there are a few things that need to be said about that game.

One is that although it was an eight-point win and the Saints were stuffed on a potential tying touchdown on the game's last play, the Packers were the better team for that entire game. Not only did the Saints never lead in that game, but the game was never tied after the Packers scored in the first quarter.

That game was also early in the year, when the weather was nice. The Saints' passing attack will struggle at a place like Lambeau in January. Similar arguments could be made about the Packers, but they play in it all the time. The Saints play nearly all of their games indoors.

The 49ers have a team that's a little better built to win at Lambeau, but their offense just doesn't do it. They kick too many field goals. That's just not going to work in Green Bay.

Ball-Hawking Defense

The unit that grabs most of the attention is the offense, and we'll get into that in a little bit. But while the Packers don't have a traditionally dominant defense, they are opportunistic. A team with the Packers' offense doesn't need more than that.

They can allow yards, and even points. But if their defense comes up with a few nice stops a game, the team is impossible to beat. That's precisely what the Packers have. Actually, as their defense goes for the ball, their defense is a little better.

While the offense gets the attention, the defense does more than enough to win games.

No quarterback has ever had a better season. This guy is an absolute best, who's already won a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP.

Take a look at Rodgers' playoff passing numbers in five career starts:

Completions/AttemptsPercentageYardsTouchdownsInterceptions
118/17467.81,524133

His numbers this season are incredible and there's nothing about his past playoff performances that make me think he'll fade at all.

Rodgers is the obvious league MVP, the league's best quarterback, and the game's best player. When you have that person leading a team with an infinite amount of weapons, it will come through in clutch spots.
