NFL Playoff Scenarios: Packers vs. Patriots and Most Likely Super Bowl Matchups

Donald WoodDec 13, 2011

With the conclusion of the 2011 NFL regular season coming to a close soon, it’s time to start breaking down possible playoff matchups and figure out who is going to play for the Super Bowl.

One of my favorite parts of the playoffs each year is trying to figure out which team will play which. It’s what makes the NFL so special to many people.

While the Green Bay Packers vs. the New England Patriots seems obvious, there are other options. Let’s be real though, those are clearly the two best teams in the NFL right now.

Packers vs. Patriots—With the Green Bay Packers still undefeated and the New England Patriots looking just as good, these two powerhouses look like they’re on a collision course with each other.

Neither team plays very good defense, so I imagine this game turning into a 48-44 Super Bowl shootout that goes down as one of the greatest in history.

While most fans won’t be able to look at it from afar, this is the best matchup that 2011 could offer to the fans. Bias aside, true fans know I’m right.

Packers vs. Steelers—If the Packers can get past the New Orleans Saints in the NFC, they will have no problem getting back to the Super Bowl.

While the Patriots are favored to get all the way in the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a knack for getting to the Super Bowl no matter what the odds are.

This game would consist of far less scoring, but the Steelers and their elite defense would be one of the few teams in the NFL that could stop the Packers undefeated season short of their ultimate goal.

Ravens vs. Saints—The biggest threat to upset the AFC playoff is the Baltimore Ravens and the biggest threat to send the Packers home early is the New Orleans Saints.

The ultimate Super Bowl would be the teams that both knocked off the favorites in an epic battle for supremacy.

This would be another shootout that lends itself to a win for the Ravens via their stellar run defense and potent run offense.
