Week 15 Waiver Wire: Smart Pickups to Propel Your Teams in Playoffs

Richard LangfordDec 13, 2011

These additions will bring you valuable points if your team is in need of a boost for crunch time of the fantasy season.

Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones

Felix Jones is available in 38 percent of leagues on NFL.com. He is a must-add. Jones looked healthy and strong last week while taking over primary running back duties for the injured DeMarco Murray.

He finished the Giants game with 16 carries for 106 yards, and he added six catches for 31 yards.

He is set for a monster day against the woeful Buccaneers. Tampa Bay is getting throttled. They have lost their last two games by a combined score of 79-33, and those losses came to the Panthers and Jaguars.

The Cowboys are going to have their way with the Buccaneers, and that means plenty of touches for Jones against the Bucs 28th-ranked rush defense.

Prediction: 147 total yards, two touchdowns

Arizona Cardinals QB John Skelton

Here's something I never thought I'd say: John Skelton is a good pickup. The second-year QB looked sharp in Arizona's upset win over the 49ers and their tough defense.

He took over for QB Kevin Kolb after Kolb suffered his second concussion of the year. This makes Kolb's chances of playing next week very slim. However, you'll certainly want to monitor his playing status before deciding if you should start Skelton.

Last week, Skelton threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

This week, Skelton faces a sinking Browns pass defense. Over the last three weeks, the Browns have allowed 8.9 yards per pass attempt. That number would rank them last for the season by almost a full yard.

Skelton loves to take shots with Larry Fitzgerald down the field. He will have plenty of opportunities to do that this week, and he is a decent option if you are not happy with the QBs on your roster.

Prediction: 225 yards, two touchdowns

Tennessee Titans' QB Jake Locker

Locker is a real wild card. This is a boom-or-bust addition. First of all, it is not guaranteed that he will play, but it is certainly looking like he will.

Second of all, the rookie QB will be making his first start.

Third of all, he is playing the Colts. This could lead to some easy points and yards for Locker, or it may just lead to a bunch of handoffs to Chris Johnson.

My advice is roll the dice with Locker if you are looking for QB help. He was impressive last week, throwing for 282 yards and a touchdown. He also brings the added value of being able to run. He picked up a TD on the ground last week, and he is a threat to score on the ground in any goal-line scenario.

Prediction: 189 passing yards, one touchdown, 54 rushing yards, one touchdown
