Tampa Bay Buccaneers: If They Fire Raheem Morris, Then Who Would They Turn To?

Tom EdringtonDec 13, 2011

The turk is making his rounds, this time with NFL head coaches.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Jack Del Rio—gone.

Kansas City Chiefs:  Todd Haley gets the axe.

Miami Dolphins:  Tony Sparano—fired.

You can bet more will follow.

Changes may be coming with at least four more teams: Indianapolis, Minnesota, San Diego and St. Louis.

With Raheem Morris on the hot seat—and he is on the hot seat—what's next if he goes?

First, the Glazers will take their time and there won't be a decision until after the season ends. If the dominoes fall then there could be a long line of openings with not a lot of established, credible candidates.

Here are the three big names:

Jon Gruden: 11 seasons between Oakland and Tampa Bay. Only six of those were winning seasons. One Super Bowl title.

Jeff Fisher: 17 years at Tennessee. Record of 142-120, 5-6 in playoff games. Six winning seasons.

Bill Cowher: 10 playoff appearances, 149-90 overall record, one Super Bowl title.

Those are the big names out there. All of them will command big money—$6 million a year—and would demand having their own "pet" general manager that basically gives them a say in personnel.

You've seen Brian Billick's name float around out there.

What every team wants, deep down inside, is a clone of Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh's tenure at San Francisco has been very impressive.

If the Buccaneers bid adios to Morris, then where would they go?

One assistant who should attract a lot of interest this offseason is Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. He's been the one who has had a big part of the development of Aaron Rodgers.

College ranks?

Harbaugh has worked out pretty well for the Niners.

The fact is, there could be a ton of openings and not a lot of names that jump out at you.

If the Buccaneers wait, the line is starting to grow.

Sit down and take a number, please.
