Why Tom Brady Is Just Praising Tim Tebow to Avoid Bulletin Board Material

Ryan PhillipsDec 13, 2011

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has always been a gracious guy. Regardless of whether you love him or hate him, the two-time MVP has never been shy about recognizing the accomplishments of other players.

Earlier this year he claimed it is impossible to play better than Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has this season, and now he has targeted Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow with his praise.

While I do believe Brady does think what Tebow has done with the Denver Broncos is great, I also know that he's smart enough not to ever say anything negative about an opponent. Brady has long been trained by head coach Bill Belichick in the art of the "say nothing interview." It is a delicate process, but Brady has almost perfected it.

It is incredibly stupid to give an opponent any extra incentive to want to defeat you. Talking out of turn and ripping on a team or player you're about to face has never made a lick of sense to me. Brady is not the kind of guy who will ever give an opposing team bulletin board material.

Brady and the Patriots apparently watched the end of Denver's comeback win over the Chicago Bears this weekend, and he liked what he saw.

Brady said the Broncos "play for 60 minutes" and are a tough team because of that. As for Tebow, the league's reigning MVP had the following to say: "Everyone says he struggles throwing the ball. What I saw last night, he had no problems throwing the ball. He threw the ball extremely well when I was watching."

Do I think Brady respects what Tebow has done for the Broncos? Absolutely. Do I think he really believes Tebow is a phenomenal throwing quarterback? Absolutely not. But like I said, Brady would never let his feelings on such things be known publicly because there is absolutely no reason to give Tebow or the Broncos any extra reason to want to beat the Patriots this weekend.
