Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups: The Latest Tips on Fantasy Football Steals

Zach KruseDec 13, 2011

On the Week 15 waiver wire, the following players are the best pickups for the weekend:

Rex Grossman, Redskins

I understand the doubt of Grossman, especially since he turns it over as much as any quarterback in the NFL. But over his last four games, Grossman has three stat lines of over 250 yards and two touchdown passes. With the Giants' woeful secondary coming up this week, he could make it four out of five.

Jake Locker, Titans

You'll have to keep an eye on Matt Hasselbeck's calf strain to judge whether or not Locker will start on Sunday. If he does start against the Colts, an owner in need of a quarterback this week will have to seriously consider Locker on the waiver wire. In both of the games that he's come in for an injured Hasselbeck, Locker produced at least two touchdowns and 20 fantasy points.

Felix Jones, Cowboys

Jones has been a disappointment this season with injuries and a lack of production, and the former allowed DeMarco Murray to take over his starting spot. Now that Murray is out indefinitely, Jones has another shot as the Cowboys' starter. He rushed for 106 yards filling in against the Giants, and the Cowboys take on the worst fantasy defense against running backs this week in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's available in over 60 percent of ESPN leagues, too.

Ryan Grant, Packers

I've been cautious with Grant all season, mostly because the Packers split carries with their running backs and are a pass-first offense. But James Starks is still hobbled with a bad ankle, and the Packers are running it more as we get into the wintery month of December. Grant made the most of his carries on Sunday against the Raiders, rushing for 85 yards and two scores for his best fantasy output of the season. He'll be the second running back people target after Jones on the waiver wire this week.

Demaryius Thomas, Broncos

The struggles of Tim Tebow for the first 45 minutes of games continue to make Thomas a risk, but you can't deny that Thomas has over 200 yards receiving and three scores in his last two games. That's a lot of production to turn down if you need a receiver, especially since the Patriots struggle defending the pass.

Kevin Walter, Texans

Whenever there's a quarterback switch, you want to identify the receivers that the new quarterback is targeting the most early on. In Houston with T.J. Yates, Walter appears to be the guy that could be his high-target guy down the stretch. Walter saw 10 targets (a team high) and caught six of them, including the game-winning score.
