WWE Rumors: John Cena, Kane, Chris Jericho and Tuesday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsDec 13, 2011

Another year, another lackluster Slammy Awards. Seriously, what is it with WWE being unable to put on an entertaining three-hour show without actually insulting the intelligence of the audience?

But now that it's over, we can look forward to a Tribute to the Troops show headlined by the best in the history of the world, Nickelback. Fun rants about terrible bands aside, we can look forward to a TLC pay-per-view this weekend and some rumors from WWE that will keep us entertained.

Here are the latest rumblings and grumblings from the best sports entertainment has to offer. As always, leave us your thoughts on anything you may want answers to or have problems with.

WILL CM PUNK BE CHRIS JERICHO'S FIRST MAJOR OPPONENT?

With the rumors still swirling about Chris Jericho being the mysterious "It Begins" superstar, the obvious question to ask assuming he does come back is: who should get first crack at him. There are reports that it will be CM Punk, who has been locked in a twitter war with Y2J for a long time.

Question on Everyone's Mind: Is CM Punk the right choice for Jericho?

Our Take: Normally when a wrestler comes back after a prolonged absence, they are a babyface, but I can see an easy scenario in which Jericho is a heel. If that's the case, then absolutely because he is the kind of villain that can make this feud into something legendary.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Promos With Assclowns

While the best possible match for CM Punk at WrestleMania would have been against Steve Austin, having him work with Jericho is a hell of a consolation prize. It will give the show that one great wrestling match that it needs to satisfy the hardcore fans and those who just like the spectacle of it all.

LAME RECORD IS THE REASON FOR KANE'S MASK RETURNING

We all know that WWE loves a good gimmick, and its ability to kill that gimmick as fast as possible, which is the main reason that Kane returned last night wearing his old school mask. They want to set a Guiness world record for most people in one spot at WrestleMania, according to reports.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Why would Kane return as a heel then?

Our Take: Because when WWE wants to try and do something, it manages to find the best possible way to do it and then execute the exact opposite of that idea. Of course, you could make a case that by attacking John Cena he was returning as a face.

Hype Meter: 3 out of 5 Masks Covering Masks

I was not been a fan of bringing Kane back with a mask, because I don't think it serves a purpose one way or another, and, sure enough, my fears were confirmed. Instead of trying to use it to make him seem more menacing, WWE just wants more mainstream validation.

JOHN CENA HAVING PERSONAL PROBLEMS

Normally I take the time to make fun of John Cena or say something negative about him because his character annoys me to no end, but he took to twitter this past weekend, which is where everyone conducts personal business, to tell everyone that December has not been kind of him.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is personal issue keeping Cena of TLC PPV?

Our Take: It is strange that WWE has not given Cena, its biggest drawing card, a match on a pay-per-view. That could change soon, but I would not be surprised to hear that his absence from this event is related to whatever his personal problems are.

Cryptic John Cena Tweet Of The Week:

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Rise Above Hate T-Shirts

It is just one show, but I am really interested to know why WWE did not give Cena a match. If it because they want to see if CM Punk is able to hold his own as champion, great. If there is something else going on, I would be interested in hearing what that might be.

WHAT IS ROAD DOGG'S ROLE IN WWE MOVING FORWARD?

Fans of the Attitude Era, if there are any left watching today's product, were treated to a special appearance by Road Dogg Jesse James, who you all remember as one-half of the New Age Outlaws back in 1998-99.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Are they bringing back the new-old version of DX?

Our Take: No, and that's a good thing. Road Dogg has reportedly been hired by WWE as a road agent setting up matches and things like that. Considering how he left WWE, it is a bit of a surprise, but time heals all wounds.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Man, Do I Feel Old Chants

I can remember watching Road Dogg and Billy Gunn as the New Age Outlaws and thinking they were pretty funny. Now neither one is wrestling anymore, and in Road Dogg's case, he is working backstage in WWE.

SLAMMY AWARDS PROVE TO BE EVEN MORE MEANINGLESS THAN THEY SOUND

I would like to close today's news and rumors with a brief recap of Raw, which as you all know was the Slammy Awards show. It should be a fun night where WWE actually honors the best of 2011, but the company did what it always does and made it a joke designed to get twitter trends and Snooki on the air.

Question on Everybody's Mind: If WWE doesn't take its product seriously, why should we?

Our Take: You shouldn't. Instead of trying to find logic in stories and real pushes for wrestlers with potential, we are going to continue to get exactly what we have seen for the last five years with no one getting over and lame jokes.

Hype Meter: 2 out of 5 Hornswoggle Promos

I used to like the Slammy Awards because it was a way to reflect on some of the best things that we saw over the past year and remind us why we actually watch this stuff each week. But now I would rather see them do away with the concept if its not going to be taken seriously.
