NFL Power Rankings: Rock Bottom Watch for League's Cellar Dwellers

Ryan PhillipsDec 12, 2011

Another week, another loss by the Indianapolis Colts. It has really gotten sad at this point, as the Peyton Manning-less team has fallen to 0-13. But the Colts aren't alone in having a horrific season, as the St. Louis Rams head into tonight's Monday night affair at 2-10 and looking primed for another loss.

The Colts have obviously struggled since it was revealed that four-time MVP quarterback Peyton Manning would miss a huge chunk of the season and likely the entire year. But I don't think anyone expected Indianapolis to be as bad as they are.

The Baltimore Ravens smacked around the Colts 24-10 yesterday, and Indianapolis looked just like it has all year—bad.

The Colts currently rank 31st in total offense, averaging just 283.4 yards per game, while also ranking 28th in total defense, allowing 384.8 yards per game. That's as bad a combination of statistics as any team has put up all year. I'd say they've reached rock bottom, but I really can't see the Colts winning a game this season, so the clear bottom won't come until they hit 0-16.

Meanwhile, the Rams haven't come close to living up to preseason expectations. After finishing 7-9 during franchise quarterback Sam Bradford's rookie year, almost everyone expected St. Louis to take the next step this season. The team clearly hasn't done that.

Bradford has battled injuries and that has held the team back, but even with him being in and out of the lineup, the offense should rank better than 30th in the league (averaging 284 yards per game). St. Louis' defense has also been a disappointment, as it ranks 25th in the NFL, allowing 366.2 yards per game.

Tonight, the Rams face off with the Seattle Seahawks in what might be one of the worst Monday night games in years. I expect them to lose and drop to 2-11, further dropping their stock.
