Joe Mauer Engaged: Marital Bliss Will Make Twins Superstar Better Than Ever
To say that 2011 was a bad year for Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer would be an understatement. He battled injuries, and his performance was never close to the standard that he had set from 2006-2010. But all that will change now that the former American League MVP is off the market.
The good news—or bad, depending on your perspective—was first broken by Lindsay Guentzel who covers the Twins for Fox Sports Midwest.
"A big congrats to Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer who proposed to girlfriend Maddie Bisanz over the weekend in Florida. While I’m sure ladies across the country are mourning the loss of the notorious bachelor, I’m happy for the kid. Hopefully she’ll be his good-luck charm this season!

That last line is really all Twins fans are interested in. While I am sure that Mauer's fiancee is a lovely woman, this team has a lot of problems, and his presence in the lineup for 130-140 games would help fix a lot of them.
We have seen in the past some athletes who have thrived after getting married—Tom Brady, but he was pretty good before he and Gisele Bundchen tied the knot.
Mauer is no doubt trying to end the year on a high note, and kudos to him for finding happiness. But his baseball career has to get back on track now, and this will be the big step that he has to take in order to stay on the field.
It would help if the Twins moved him out from behind the plate because he is too big and fragile to play catcher.
Still, getting married is going to help Mauer relax. There is a very therapeutic element to getting married, especially to someone that you describe as your best friend.
Here is wishing Joe and Maddie all the best in their life together, and here is hoping that he is able to stay on the field in 2012 because the game is a lot more interesting when he is able to play.
