NFL Playoff Predictions: Denver Broncos and More Teams Who Will Miss Postseason

T.J. McaloonDec 12, 2011

The Denver Broncos are on an amazing six-game winning streak right now. However, even with that streak, they will not finish as the AFC West Division champion.

Has the run by the Broncos been magical, yes. Has Tim Tebow orchestrated a number of comebacks, yes. However, their last three games will see this dream season come crashing down.

As good as Tebow has been in winning games in the fourth quarter. It’s been the Broncos’ defense that has kept these games close for Tebow to make these comebacks.

Denver has the 10-3 New England Patriots next. The Patriots bring in one of the best offenses in the NFL. As good as the Denver defense has been during this winning streak, they will not be able to keep this offense off of the scoreboard.

After New England’s victory in Denver, the Broncos have to travel to Buffalo. This is a Bills team that has scored 41 points on the AFC West Kansas City Chiefs. A Chiefs team that is ranked 10th in the NFL in passing defense compared to Denver being ranked 15th.

These two losses, plus Oakland’s two next wins, will see the Raiders win the AFC West and the Broncos miss out of the playoffs.

New York Giants (7-6)

The Giants won a huge road game last week against the Dallas Cowboys. They have the lead in the NFC East Division, with three games remaining on their schedule. However, two of those three games are against teams with winning records.

Against the Jets, the Giants will find themselves relying on their running game to gut out a victory. Which should scare you Giants fans, as their rushing attack ranks dead last in the NFL.

That game will see a dominant Jets passing defense that ranks sixth in the NFL eliminate Eli Manning and the Giants passing game.

From there, the final game against Dallas will have the Cowboys correct the mistakes that crippled them last week. On the road in Week 17, they will not allow Eli to throw for 400 yards. And when they need a field goal to win the game late, they will do a better job in not allowing a blocked kick.

The Giants will finish at 8-8, watching a 9-7 Dallas team host a playoff game in the first round.

Detroit Lions 8-5

The Lions got a much-needed win last week against the Minnesota Vikings. The win put the Lions back into the playoffs, after a Chicago Bears loss. However, the Lions have a murderous row of games to finish their season.

Detroit’s last three games are at Oakland, vs. San Diego and at Green Bay. That’s three games against two teams that could win the AFC West and a Packers team that could be going for a perfect regular season.

The Lions offense is one of the best in the NFL, however, the defense will be the reason why this Lions’ team drops their last three games missing the playoffs. In their last three games, they play offenses that average 22 points a game or more. Detroit has a defense that has given up 23 points per game.

An 8-8 season should be looked upon as a successful season. However, they will be passed over for a 9-7 Seattle Seahawks team.

If the NFL playoffs started today, these three teams would be playing for a chance to make Super Bowl XLVI. However, in three weeks, they will all miss out on the playoffs, after suffering crippling losses.
