NFL Playoff Predictions: 4 Players Who Could Shock the World

Jon DoveDec 11, 2011

Each year several players raise their level of play in the playoffs. The playoffs give fans an opportunity to see players they typically don't get to watch. This is where stars have an opportunity to shine and take advantage of the national stage.

We expect to see Tom Brady, Aaron Rodger and Drew Brees play well. However, most of the country might not be aware of Von Miller's talent. He might have an opportunity to show the world his game-changing ability.

Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

1 of 4

Drew Brees loves to spread the football around to a few different targets. However, this season has been different, thanks to the emergence of Jimmy Graham. On the season, Graham has 75 receptions, 1,046 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The 1,046 receiving yards rank him at No. 5 in the league, and tops among tight ends.

Because of his size and quickness, Graham is a mismatch for most defenses. He is too fast for linebackers and too big for defensive backs. His season high yardage total is 132 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Graham is more than capable of topping that total in an important playoff game.

Von Miller, Denver Broncos

2 of 4

The Denver Broncos' rookie Von Miller already established himself as one of the top pass rushers in the league. His 10.5 sacks leads the team and ranks him fifth in the league. Many have compared him to the late Derrick Thomas.

If the Broncos earn a playoff berth, they will need Miller to have a major impact. The Broncos rely on the play of their defense to win football games. Miller is the team's top pass rushing threat and a defense is only as successful as their top pass rusher.

Miller potentially could collect a high number of sacks in a single game. Because of his ability to create pressure, he is capable of changing the outcome of a game.

Shonn Greene, New York Jets

3 of 4

The early part of Shonn Greene's season was as disappointing as the entire Jets football team. He struggled to consistently take advantage of his opportunities, and at one point was benched in favor of LaDainian Tomlinson.

However, over the last three games Greene is averaging 5.1 yards per carry and four touchdowns. Greene's playoff history features several successful games. In 2009, Greene had a three game rushing total over 300 yards.

The combination of his previous success and recent surge makes Greene a strong candidate for a strong playoff run.

Torrey Smith, Balitmore Ravens

4 of 4

The Baltimore Ravens used a second-round pick in last April's draft to select Maryland's Torrey Smith. Smith was brought in to provide the Ravens with a deep threat. He met and exceeded all expectations, stretching the defense and making plays down the field.

Baltimore needs Smith to have an impact during the playoffs. Because of his deep threat ability, he helps open things up for the rushing attack. Without Smith, opposing defenses will bring more defenders into box aiming to shut down Ray Rice.

Smith has two games of over 150 receiving yards, he is capable of producing a similar total in a playoff game.
