Raiders vs. Packers: 4 Key First Half Stats for the Raiders

Evan AdrianDec 11, 2011

That could not have gone much worse.

Oakland was thoroughly dominated on both sides of the football in the first half and really haven't showed any signs of life. This team looks like they're trying to win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, not fight for their playoff lives.

Here are four key stats from the first half that show how truly bad this first half effort was.

1. Three Dropped Passes for Heyward-Bey in First Quarter: Obviously, this number is unacceptable for a team in a quarter, let alone a single player. Palmer has been putting the ball in the perfect place for DHB. Look for Carson to look elsewhere in the second half of this one.

2. Eight Penalties for 64 Yards: Here’s a sentence Raiders' fans have been hearing all season: Oakland is committing way too many penalties. Against any team, eight penalties is too many. Against a team like Green Bay, this is WAY too any. I have a hard time believing a team that makes this many mistakes can make any noise in the playoffs (if they get there).

3. 3.5 Yards Per Carry: The Raiders have been missing McFadden dearly over the last few weeks. This number is particularly alarming for the Raiders because Green Bay’s secondary has been so solid in the first half. Oakland has to be able to get positive rushing yards on first and second down to keep this defense honest.

4. 18.7 QB Rating for Palmer: Did you expect this number to be higher after that first half? Didn't think so. Aaron Rodgers' QB rating is a LOT higher at 139.4 Hell, even Lechler has a better QB rating. Palmer has been the king of the garbage touchdowns this season, which is great for fantasy owners, but not so much for Raiders fans. Palmer better start doing something in the first half, or the Terrelle Pryor whispers might begin soon. Seriously.
