Lions vs. Vikings: Watch This Insane Ending Push Detroit Toward the NFL Playoffs

Brian MaziqueDec 11, 2011

This may be what the Detroit Lions needed to reverse the path it seems they had fallen onto last week. The Lions had lost two consecutive games, and they were enduring a suspension of their best defensive player in Ndamukong Suh, plus a bothersome label as a dirty team.

The bumbling and snake-bitten labels were returning to the team as well. The Lions nearly went the same direction in this game as they squandered a 21-point lead and had to hold on for a six-point victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Cliff Avril dropped his Madden awareness rating with a ridiculous offside penalty inside his team's 5-yardline. Before all of this, the Vikings had lifted an ineffective Christian Ponder in favor of Joe Webb.

The athletic Webb engineered the comeback. On the last play of the game, with the Vikings having a chance for the win, the Minnesota QB lost the ball shortly after the snap.

The Lions' DeAndre Levy got away with a clear facemask, and the loose ball was kicked about 35 yards down the field before Mr. Awareness himself pounced on the loose ball to secure the win for the Lions.

The win keeps the Lions' playoff hopes alive. Their primary competition, the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears, are all in action.

The Falcons held off the Carolina Panthers, but the Chicago Bears and their weapon-less offense have their hands full against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

Right now, the Lions have to like their playoff chances.
