Week 15 Waiver Wire: Top 5 Pickups for Final Stretch

Matt SteinDec 11, 2011

With most fantasy leagues in their playoffs, the waiver wire for Week 15 is as crucial as ever. This is especially true if your top point-getters (Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte) have been hit by the injury bug.

Here are five players to pickup for the final postseason stretch off the waiver wire in Week 15.

Jake Locker: Quarterback, Tennessee Titans

1 of 5

With Matt Hasselbeck suffering a calf injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game, Jake Locker was once again called upon to replace him.

This hasn't been the first time that we've seen Locker replace Hasselbeck during a game, but it may be the last. With the Titans losing on Sunday, it is very likely that they will stick with Locker at quarterback for the remainder of the season.

Locker brings a unique skill set to the Tennessee Titans offense and should be able to put up quality fantasy numbers for the remainder of the season. Not only can he get it done through the air, but he will also give you good production as a runner.

Should Locker get hot in the last three weeks of the season, he could become a playoff MVP for your fantasy team.

T.J. Yates: Quarterback, Houston Texans

2 of 5

The fact that T.J. Yates is starting in less than five percent of Yahoo! Sports fantasy leagues is just ridiculous.

Not only does Yates quarterback for one of the better offenses in the league, but he has also shown that he is capable of being more than just a game manager.

Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Yates threw the ball 44 times for 300 yards and two touchdowns. The key statistic there is that the Houston Texans coaches trust Yates enough to allow him to throw 44 times in a close game.

Whenever a quarterback is given the opportunity to throw that often, it is very likely that he will put up quality fantasy numbers.

Joe Webb: Quarterback, Minnesota Vikings

3 of 5

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback situation will be one to keep a close eye on during the week.

When Minnesota pulled Christian Ponder because of poor play in the second half of Sunday's game, Joe Webb came in and played well enough to almost bring Minnesota back from a huge first half deficit.

Webb threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown while nearly erasing a 17-point Detroit Lions' lead. While he didn't complete a very high percentage of passes, he definitely showed that he is a dangerous man with the ball in his hands.

If the Vikings decide to let Webb finish the season as the starting quarterback, his dual-threat ability could be a huge advantage for your fantasy team.

Titus Young: Wide Receiver, Detroit Lions

4 of 5

Living in Calvin Johnson's world certainly can't be easy, but it does have it's benefits.

One of those benefits is having Johnson constantly double-teamed. The main beneficiary of Johnson in recent weeks has been Titus Young.

Even though Young is only a rookie, he has shown his ability to be a huge part of Detroit's offense. On Sunday, Young had four receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown.

His ability to make plays down the field could prove to be essential to the Lions' run at the playoffs. Look for Young to continue to get plenty of targets in the upcoming weeks as teams continue to focus on Johnson.

Demaryius Thomas: Wide Receiver, Denver Broncos

5 of 5

To call a wide receiver on Tim Tebow's team a valuable fantasy player seems ridiculous, but Demaryius Thomas is definitely worth a waiver wire pickup for Week 15.

Last week, Thomas had 144 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He followed that performance with another 78 receiving yards and a touchdown on Sunday against a tough Chicago Bears defense.

It appears as if Thomas and Tebow have found a connection, and with Thomas' ability to stretch the field, he should continue to be a nice option for the Denver Broncos.

Right now, Thomas is definitely worthy of starting at your flex position, and he may even be worth of a starting wide receiver slot.
