NBA Rumors: Kobe Bryant and Others React to Lamar Odom Trade
Today Lamar Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks for a trade exception. Needless to say, the reactions form the Lakers players and the reactions from the Mavericks players are very different.
Perhaps the best quote of all comes from Dirk Nowitzki, as tweeted by Jeff Caplan of ESPN.
"Another Dirk gem: "...to get Lamar Odom for a trade exception - and I don’t even know what that is - we turned nothing into a great player."
"
Perhaps that's the best possible way to say it.
Rick Carlisle did the smart thing to get on his new player's good side, or at the very least on his wife's good side (does she have a bad side?).
"Without being asked, Carlisle said this: "I will say this, Khloe is my favorite Kardashian. She's the coolest, in my opinion.''
"
Kobe Bryant's reaction wasn't nearly as happy, and understandably so.
A series of Mike Bresnahan tweets are telling. First:
"Kobe on Odom trade: "I don't like it. He's great at bringing guys together. I trust management knows what they're doing...but it's tough."
"
Next:
"More Kobe: "I've known Lamar for a long time. He's a big presence for us in the locker room, just from a team chemistry standpoint."
"
Then:
"Kobe really didn't like Odom's new destination. "Especially to them," he said. "We were supposed to come back and get them back."
"
And finally:
"Last Kobe: "I don't think Mark Cuban's protesting this trade."
"
Not surprising that the mood in the Dallas camp is a lot better than the mood in the Laker's camp. The Mavs get a great defensive presence to replace what they lost in Tyson Chandler and the Lakers don't get Paul today and they lose Odom anyway.
Unless this offseason ends in Howard wearing purple and gold, this could go down as a horrible offseason for the Lakers, especially when it started to look like it could be so phenomenal.
