UFC on Fox 2: Why Chael Sonnen Will Be Next for Anderson Silva

Kyle SymesDec 11, 2011

The Chael Sonnen-Anderson Silva saga needs to come to an end and if Mark Munoz would politely just step aside, we could have our ending we want so badly.

While all eyes are ready to tune in for a Sonnen-Silva rematch, Mr. Sonnen has a fight to win before he steps in the cage against "The Spider" one more time.

At the UFC on Fox 2 event, Sonnen will take on the dangerous Munoz in a title eliminator bout.

Munoz has the raw power and wrestling ability to give Sonnen a difficult time, but I still am placing all my money (monopoly money that is!) on Sonnen to walk out of Chicago with his hand raised.

The main reason for this thinking, besides the fact I believe Sonnen is better, is because Munoz has struggled with lesser level fighters before.

Against Demian Maia, Munoz struggled some with his grappling. Although Sonnen isn't on the same level as Maia as far as submissions go, his wrestling is far superior.

And for those that think Munoz will have enough take down defense to avoid a Sonnen double-leg, look at Sonnen's fights against Yushin Okami, Nate Marquardt and even against Silva.

All three of those men are big middleweights and Sonnen took them all down with relative ease, and held them down.

Munoz's punching power could wobble Sonnen if he can get his punch off, but as we've seen, Munoz doesn't throw anything that's not more than two punch combinations in his fights.

Even if he does throw his power punch, it's likely to be a looping punch that Sonnen will be able to duck under and get the take down.

If a broken down Chris Leben can take Munoz down, what makes you think Sonnen can't?

It's not a matter of if  Sonnen will fight Silva, but just a matter of when. And with the potential money to be made, you know Dana White and the UFC are secretly rooting for a Sonnen victory in Chicago as well.
