UFC 140 Results: The Flyweights Are Coming to the UFC
At the UFC 140 post-fight press conference, Dana White made arguably the biggest news of the night, as he announced the official date that the 125-pound flyweight division would arrive in the UFC.
White said that on March 3rd—he likely meant 4th—the flyweights would make their debut in a four-man tournament to crown a champion.
The first matchup features the No. 1 flyweight in the world, Ian McCall, facing off against a top-five bantamweight, Demetrious Johnson.
The second matchup is between Yasuhiro Urushitani, the No. 2 or 3 flyweight, and arguably the No. 2 bantamweight, Joseph Benavidez.
For those who don't know, Ian McCall is the current Tachi Palace Fights Champion, with a record of 11-2, and he has fought against current UFC bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz.
Yasuhiro Urushitani is the current Shooto bantamweight (123-pound) champion, and is on a five-fight winning streak, with two straight knockouts.
Urushitani has a notable victory over Season 14 winner of The Ultimate Fighter, John Dodson.
