Khan vs. Peterson Results: Amir Khan Won't Be Able to Handle Floyd Mayweather

Jeff ChaseDec 10, 2011

If Amir Khan proved anything in his fight against Lamont Peterson, he proved that he is not ready to handle a welterweight fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan was struggling against Peterson, while many had originally thought it was going to be a walk in the park for Khan. That proved to be false.

Peterson was handling Khan, and the fight went to the limit. Khan was penalized twice for pushing, and he failed to learn as his second violation came in the 12th round.

Peterson wasn't as elusive as Khan, but the point penalties would not fly against a fighter like Mayweather.

Khan could have won the fight if it wasn't for the two penalties, but in the end those hurt his chances.

The fight proved that Khan would not be able to handle a fighter like Mayweather. Many had thought that the fight would have gone less than the full 12 rounds, but the fact that it did doesn't give people much hope for a Khan vs. Mayweather bout.

Many were wondering if he would stand any chance in the ring against perhaps one of the best fighters ever. After this showing, many would argue that he would get handled pretty easily by Mayweather, or perhaps any welterweight.

While many assumed that Khan would take his shot at the next weight class with a victory, it doesn't look to be his best career move at the time being.

Khan still has room to grow, and the 26-year-old fighter will need to continue to work on his skills before he can jump to the next level.
