UFC 140 Results: Igor Pokrajac Surprises with Dominant Fight

Ryan RudnanskyDec 10, 2011

Igor Pokrajac has never been a dominant fighter in the light heavyweight division.

That's why it was so shocking on Saturday night when he turned in a dominant performance versus Krzysztof Soszynski.

While Soszynski has been nothing special himself lately, suffering his third loss in his last six fights, Pokrajac's victory on Saturday night was surely well-deserved.

Pokrajac came rushing out of the gate against Soszynski, throwing straight punches that knocked Soszynski back quickly before Pokrajac pummeled him on the mat and knocked him out cold. It lasted all of 35 seconds.

It wasn't like the 32-year-old beat a top opponent, but it was still a fight he should be proud of, turning back the clock to the days when he could win eight fights in a row.

I don't expect Pokrajac to suddenly revitalize his career at age, but Saturday did show he still has some impressive power that can single-handedly sway the outcomes of fights. He showed zip when he was struggling to get off the ground lately.

You wonder if Pokrajac can go on another run before he fades off into the sunset. It's hard to give him too much credit given the quality of his opponent on Saturday, but he did show he's not done yet, and you hope he can get back on track.

As for Soszynski, he's fallen hard since winning his first three UFC fights. And at 34 years old, there's not much room for failure. Given the rise of mixed martial arts, plenty of young up-and-coming fighters are gunning for a shot at the UFC.
