UFC 140 Results: Watson Gets Robbed in Decision Loss to Jabouin
The robbery was committed at UFC 140 as Yves Jabouin gets the nod over the more aggressive Walel Watson.
It was a close fight, and it was a fight that entertained from the beginning until the end, but unfortunately, it will be remembered for the judges’ scorecards.
I had the fight 29-28 for Watson, as I thought he won the first and third rounds. He was more active throughout the fight, and he landed a lot of shots against Jabouin.
I really hate to see guys get a loss on their record when the judges are incompetent and unable to realize what’s going on in front of their eyes. Because of that, the fighters are more likely to lose their job in the UFC, and they get money taken away from them, but that’s a different article for a different day.
Even with the loss, I strongly believe that Watson can be a force at bantamweight in the UFC. His reach is so difficult to deal with, and if he can really polish up his striking skills, he could have a distinct advantage over every opponent he faces.
Watson showed that not only does he have lethal strikes, but he has some skills on the ground as well. He caught Jabouin in a choke in the third round, and I thought that was going to be it for the Canadian.
If Watson can put it all together, he could be the Jon Jones at bantamweight. I’m not crazy about this comparison because of how great Jones has become, but they have the same frame for their division.
Watson will have a reach advantage over 95 percent of all the fighters at bantamweight, and that’s something that will give him success in the future.
The future is bright for Watson, but unfortunately for him, he’s going to have to really impress the UFC in his next fight because of this botched decision.
