Khan vs. Peterson: Khan Must Follow Up Win with Move to Next Weight Class
With a victory over Lamont Peterson in tonight's light welterweight bout, Amir Khan needs to move to the welterweight class to further his success.
If he were to claim a victory tonight, that would make him 7-0 in the light welterweight class, and would prove that he could make a move up in weight class. Of course, many people will want to see Khan matched up against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Although a fight between Khan and Manny Pacquiao would be a great fight, the two men share a trainer and it would be very unlikely that either man would switch trainers in light of all their success.
At 26-1, Khan is one of the best young fighters in the sport. After all he has accomplished at lightweight and light welterweight, his best option would be to no longer waste time and just move onto the next challenge.
Following Saturday's match, a win by Khan will make him one of the most attractive opponents for a number of fighters. He will clearly want to make a big impact and the best opportunity would be against a fighter like Mayweather, current owner of WBC welterweight title.
Mayweather would likely be attracted to fighting a boxer like Khan as it presents him a great opportunity to prove he isn't afraid to take on fighters with great potential.
Of course there will be the issue between the two fighters considering that Pacman and Khan have the same trainers, and the Mayweather may not be interested in dealing with Freddie Roach.
Whether Khan can get a piece of Mayweather or not, he has to make the move to welterweight in order to make new ground on his ever growing potential.
