UFC 140 Fight Card: Mir and Noguiera Bout Will Produce Same Result
Frank Mir will once again defeat Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by TKO tonight.
The last time these two met, at UFC 92, Nogueira had to be saved by the referee after Mir dominated the standup game.
It was an absolute shocker because of Nogueira’s MMA dominance at heavyweight throughout his illustrious career, and everyone believed Nogueira had better striking.
Obviously that wasn’t the case, and Mir was able to drop Nogueira throughout the fight. It was one of Mir’s biggest victories in his MMA career, and it was most likely Mir’s career-defining moment.
Shortly after the victory, word got out that Nogueira had a staph infection before the fight, and in many eyes, the excuse took away from Mir’s performance. Now it’s time for the rematch, and Mir will prove tonight that the first fight wasn’t a fluke.
Nogueira’s old wars are catching up to him, and although he’s coming off of an impressive victory over Brendan Schaub, I question what Nogueira has left.
Mir is coming off of a dominant victory over Roy Nelson, and he’s proven that his striking has become just as dangerous as his ground game.
I look for both fighters to go in there and try to prove something to one another by standing and trading.
Mir believes he’s the better striker and that the first fight was a perfect example of that, while Nogueira believes the staph infection had everything to do with him getting stopped by Mir.
Both will stand and trade, and Mir will get the better of the exchanges. Nogueira is just too slow nowadays, and he won’t be able to handle Mir’s power.
I don’t expect this fight to be close at all, and I believe that Mir will dominate this fight more than he did the first time.
