UFC 140 Fight Results: Jake Hecht Turns in Impressive Debut
It wasn’t the start Jake Hecht wanted, but his debut ended with his hand being raised in victory after a second-round stoppage.
Hecht entered the octagon for the first time with an impressive 10-2 record, and after being dominated in the first round by Rich Attonito, the tide began to turn.
In the second round, Attonito was going for a takedown against the fence, and Hecht rained down elbows to the side of Attonito’s face. After taking multiple shots, Attonito stumbled and Hecht jumped on the wounded Attonito.
Hecht continued his assault with elbows until the referee pulled him off. It was an impressive victory by Hecht over a tough opponent in Attonito, but it wasn’t a convincing one.
Hecht proved that he’s a tough guy that can be dangerous wherever the fight may go, but he was dominated by Attonito in the early going. But a win inside the octagon is an impressive feat in itself, and I really thought Attonito was going to find a lot of success at welterweight.
He possesses one-punch knockout skills, and I think welterweight is his natural home. Even though he got caught with those elbows, I still believe Attonito will find success at 170 pounds. As for Hecht, I’m not quite sure where he will go from here.
He showed in his debut that he has capable skills, but I’m going to have to see a lot more of him before I proclaim he’s a contender. With that said, this guy has a lot of upside with solid striking and a solid ground game.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for Hecht and what kind of success he’ll have in the UFC, but as for now, the man deserves a pat on the back for a hard-fought victory.
