Army vs. Navy: Grading the Midshipmen's 27-21 Win Against Army

While there are great rivalry games in college football like Ohio State-Michigan and Texas-Oklahoma, there is arguably no greater college football game between two football programs than the annual December meeting between the Army Black Nights and the Navy Midshipmen.

As the atmosphere was great for the pageantry of the Army-Navy game Saturday afternoon, the Midshipmen left Washington, DC today with a big 27-21 win today against the Black Knights of Army for their 10^th straight win in the 112^th meeting of the two service schools. 

Navy Offense

The option rushing attack of the Midshipmen was pretty much their entire offense as Navy ran the ball for just under 300 yards with a meager 17 yards through the air as the team actually had less total yards than Army in the victory.

Navy Defense

Between the two defenses, the Navy unit was the worse of the two in a very competitive matchup. The Midshipmen gave up a total of 375 yards—298 rushing and 77 passing.

Grade: C-

Navy Special Teams

Kicker Jon Teague and punter Pablo Beltran were great in their respective roles during the game as Teague was perfect on two field goal attempts in addition to the three PAT attempts after the three Navy touchdowns.

Beltran was able to help the Midshipmen’s cause. He was effective with his punts, averaging 35 yards per, with one going inside the 20 yard line.

Navy Coaching

The key coaching moment came in the final moments of the game when Navy quarterback Kriss Proctor drew the Army defense offside which iced the game for the Midshipmen.

Overall

In what was a classic meeting between the two service schools Saturday, the Midshipmen were able to overcome their two fumbles and capitalized on the Black Knights' three fumbles of their own as the run game was a key in the 112^th meeting of the Army-Navy game.
