New York Jets: Predicting the Rest of Their Season
Can the New York Jets win out?
The gates are open. and it’s the final lap to the finish line. Teams are racing for the final AFC playoff spot. We are going to look at the New York Jets and their schedule for the remainder of the season, and see if they are playoff-bound for the third straight season.
Could they run the table and win the rest of their games?
Week 14: Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets
1 of 5Looking at this game in Week 2 or Week 3, the Kansas City Chiefs looked like an easy week for the Jets. Jamal Charles went down for the season in Week 2 with an ACL injury, and the Chiefs looked like the Chiefs of 2009, not 2010.
However, after starting off 0-3, the Chiefs have been able to go 5-4 and just keep their heads above the water in the playoff picture.
The Chiefs might be a more difficult challenge than expected, but the Jets will ground and pound all over the Chiefs awful rushing defense. Once the Chiefs try desperately to stop the Jets run game led by Shonn Greene, Mark Sanchez will utilize the play action and spread the field.
Game Result: Jets 30, Chiefs 13
Week 15: New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles
2 of 5Looking at the end of the Jets schedule before the season, Weeks 14, 15, 16 looked like trouble. While the games are still going to be difficult, the teams are not nearly as dangerous as they were expected to be. This includes the disappointing Philadelphia Eagles.
Take a look at who all the so-called experts predicted before the season to win the NFC East…http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/nfl/09/01/season.predictions/index.html.
Although the Eagles have severely underachieved this year, they still are a dangerous team. Michael Vick will most likely be playing in this game, barring another injury, which is very possible. With Vick on the field and LeSean McCoy looking like arguably the best running back in the game, the Jets will have their hands full on defense.
They have shown that they are vulnerable to the running game of opposing teams at times this season. Something that could favor the Jets is the fact that some Eagles players may check out because they are out of the playoff picture. Look for a close game that the Jets win by the skin of their teeth and a Mark Sanchez fourth quarter comeback.
Game Result: Jets 24, Eagles 23
Week 16: New York Giants at New York Jets
3 of 5For the first time in my life, the Jets and New York Giants face each other in the regular season. I just have to say that whoever made the NFL schedule’s this season was not a Jets fan. After they got screwed with a Sunday night followed by Thursday game, they kind of get screwed here, too, because they basically get short-changed with home games. They are technically the home team, but they are playing the team that also plays home games in the same stadium.
This game will come down to Eli Manning against Jets pass defense. Manning is having the best year of his career. It all depends on what Jets defense shows up. They have been able to shut down teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and the awful Jaguars. They also have looked awful against the Patriots twice and week 12 Bills.
Scenario No. 1
A late mistake from Eli Manning is going to open the door for the Jets to run out the clock and kick a late field goal to put the game away.
Game Result: Jets 27, Giants 24
Scenario No. 2
The Jets offense can’t keep up with Giants offense and are outscored.
Game Result: Giants 31, Jets 21
Week 17: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
4 of 5The Miami Dolphins at one point this season looked poised to go 0-16. But since Reggie Bush dished out a reality check, the Dolphins have turned it around and have been playing good football behind Matt Moore. The Jets and Dolphins have had their history and they do not like each other.
The Dolphins will do all they can to stop the Jets from making the postseason, and the Jets might just be in a win-and-you’re-in situation.
Jets fans expect to be frustrated. The Jets offense is going to struggle this game. Expect this game to be low scoring for three quarters, and the Jets to score twice in the fourth quarter to find themselves playing beyond Week 17.
Game Result: Jets 20, Dolphins 10
Conclusion
5 of 5This scenario is very possible and might just be necessary for the Jets to make the playoffs. If the Jets are going to hiccup and screw their chances up at making the playoffs it is going to be against the Giants. Both teams are going to be fighting for a playoff spot and for bragging rights. I think the Giants are going to be out of it after they lose to the Cowboys this week.
