Real Madrid vs. Barcelona: Los Blancos Will Win La Liga with Clasico Victory

Nicholas GossDec 10, 2011

Real Madrid will win the La Liga title this season when they defeat Barcelona in El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

Madrid has a three-point cushion at the top of the league table with a game in hand over their rivals, and a win would put them in a comfortable position to end Barcelona's run of three consecutive Spanish titles.

These Clasico games are not only the best club football has to offer in terms of talent and excitement, they act as title deciders.

A massive reason Barcelona has won the La Liga title the past two seasons is because they hold a four-match winning streak in Clasico league games.

Last year, however, Real Madrid proved they were on Barcelona's level. A Copa Del Rey triumph and a hard-fought Champions League fixture has given Jose Mourinho's men the confidence they need for this campaign.

For Madrid to beat Barca Saturday, they must control the midfield and stop Xavi and Cesc Fabregas from setting up the forwards with glorious scoring chances.

Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has arguably been their player of the season, and his ability to excel defensively as well as control the middle of the field is vital for Los Blancos.

Alonso and German midfielder Sami Khedira will have the job of winning the midfield on Saturday, and it is a battle they can win.

Barca will have the majority of possession in this match, but the key for Madrid is not letting them have too much time on the ball or be able to pick out passes to the forwards.

When Madrid wins on Saturday, Barcelona will need a lot of luck to win La Liga this season. For starters, Barca will need to win every league game for the rest of the season. They'd also need Real Madrid to be upset by inferior teams, which likely won't happen more than once.

Madrid have not lost since September 18, and are 6-0-0 at the Bernabeu. Los Blancos will defeat Barcelona on Saturday and take a commanding league lead that their rivals will not be able to overcome.
