UFC 140: Jon Jones Will Complete Amazing Year with Win over Lyoto Machida
Jon Jones can complete a historic year in UFC with a win over Lyoto Machida in UFC 140 Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Jones has defeated several top fighters on his way to becoming one of the sport's top figures. Jones defeated Ryan Bader in February, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua a month later for the light heavyweight tile, and then Quinton Jackson in September.
That is an impressive resume for a 24-year-old fighter who was just a top prospect at the beginning of the year.
With a win over Machida, Jones would be the first fighter ever to defeat three former or current title holders in a single year, an extraordinary accomplishment.
Jones understands Machida will give him a good fight, but like anything, being well prepared goes a long way.
“Lyoto’s a unique challenge, and really there’s nothing to fear when you’re prepared,” Jones said via the National Post.
Jones is a fantastic wrestler and his tremendous length makes him real an extremely tough matchup. Combine those qualities with his great strength and Machida has his work cut out for him for UFC 140.
The New Yorker's style of fighting presents a unique challenge to many fighters, as it allows him to be strong defensively as well.
If Jones approaches this fight the same way he has all year, he will defeat Machida and complete a year for the ages.
