Fantasy Football Week 14: Cam Newton and QBs Destined for Playoff Success

Josh MartinDec 10, 2011

It's Week 14 of the NFL season, and you know what that means...it's time for the fantasy football playoffs!

Quality quarterbacking, as always, will be key to carrying on through the postseason. Those of you with these signal callers on your rosters should be in prime position to survive and advance to next weekend.

Cam Newton

Cam Newton is unlikely to pick up three touchdowns on the ground against Atlanta, which boasts the third-stingiest rushing defense in the NFL this season, though he still may well prance into the end zone at least once or twice on Sunday.

Newton notched 47 yards and a touchdown with his legs at the Georgia Dome the last time these two teams met, so who's to say he won't at least replicate that at home?

Of course, he wasn't exactly so hot throwing the ball back in Week 6, as he finished the day without a touchdown to balance out the three picks he tossed.

But that was two months ago, and Newton has improved as an NFL passer since. Look for him to prove as much when he connects with Steve Smith on bomb after bomb against the Falcons.

If Tim Tebow can throw for 202 yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings, then Matthew Stafford, a real-life, NFL-style passer, should be able to at least duplicate, if not double, those same stats.

Stafford had something of a field day in Minnesota in Week 3, when he threw for 378 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-23 overtime victory for the Lions. A change in location (Ford Field) and running back situation (no Jahvid Best) bodes even better for Stafford's fantasy productivity.

Suh or no Suh.

Joe Flacco

Who at the quarterback position HASN'T feasted on the Colts this year?

Other than those who haven't played the Colts, of course.

Joe Flacco's coming off substandard performances against quality pass defenses, so it stands to reason that he'll take full advantage of the opportunity to rack up big numbers against winless and woebegone Indianapolis.

Even if a hefty contingent of fans in the stands at M&T Bank Stadium are rooting for Charm City's old team.
