Orlando Magic: Don't Expect Them To File for Tampering Charges
The Magic are not going to file for any charges against the Nets for two reasons. First, they clearly don’t have enough evidence. Second, they still should want the Nets offer for Howard.
The Magic have already dropped the idea that they will file charges against the Rockets on account of not having enough evidence to do so. If they really wanted to file charges against the Nets and had enough evidence to do so, they would have done it already.
Just say they did have enough evidence against the Nets on the situation. Why would the Magic file charges against the Nets, if it is the best offer they are going to get? They wouldn't. The Magic are not going to file for tampering charges out of anger if the Nets offer is the best possible deal for Dwight.
If Howard tells the Magic he wants a trade to the Nets and won’t sign an extension anywhere else, the Nets offer will undoubtedly be the best on the table because teams won’t give up as much for a rented player.
It would be silly for the Magic to lose the Nets as a possible trade scenario because it would only hurt themselves.
Even if Howard does not end up going to the Nets, having the Nets' strong offer of Lopez and draft picks will cause other teams to try and match or even offer more. Without the Nets' offer on the table, the Magic would get less than they wanted for their star player.
