WWE: Randy Orton'S Current Role Best Fit for Everybody

Nathan GieseDec 10, 2011

Randy Orton is on track to being known as one of the best superstars in WWE history.

Being a triple crown winner, having multiple world championships under his belt and being one of the biggest faces in the WWE, Orton is without question one of the most successful and interesting performers throughout the existence of the WWE.

Through most of his career, Orton has been featured prominently in the main-event scene; fighting for the world title, taking on the best of the best and shining brightly every time he steps into the ring.

Except, right now, Orton is nowhere near the world-title scene. He's spent the last few months filling his veteran duty in helping to get other superstars over.

Cody Rhodes came across Orton's path and, while Rhodes may have technically lost the feud, made Rhodes appear to be an even bigger threat than he ever was before.

Now, Wade Barrett is constantly one-upping Randy both physically and psychologically. He's beaten Orton in one-on-one competition, his team defeated Randy's at Survivor Series and has cost him numerous other matches over the course of the last couple of weeks.

While it may appear Orton is taking a backseat for the moment, in reality, he's doing everything right.

Not only is he making his opponents stronger by entering into feuds with them, he's able to use his in-ring skill to show the way and make them better for it.

Look at how strong Orton was able to make Christian out to be during their feud this past Summmer. Granted, Christian is an amazing in-ring wrestler in his own right, but it wasn't until his matches with Orton hit it big did he get the respect he deserves for it.

One of the biggest ideals as to why Orton is no longer in the main-event scene right now is because this is his punishment for the ring bell incident with Cody Rhodes. It wasn't permissible for him to be suspended at the time, considering the fact that he was in the middle of putting over Mark Henry as the incredibly dominant heel we know him as today.

Rhodes and Barrett may have their own sets of skills and could easily make it to the big-time without Orton's help, but there is no question that without Randy Orton, Mark Henry would be just another angry big man who can't seem to catch a break. Orton made Henry this great monster and helped establish him as the next great heel in the WWE.

In the past year alone, Orton has put The Miz, CM Punk, Christian, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett on the fast track to main-event success and mainstream popularity.

In each instance, Orton put on some great matches and allowed fans to not only see Orton show his stuff, but also to put his opponents skills on display.

While it may seem like Orton is taking a backseat right now, in reality, he's the most important member of the SmackDown roster.  Orton does not need the World Heavyweight Championship in order to be effective.

Randy Orton being away from the title picture is the perfect situation right now. Sure, he will soon be back into the title picture soon enough. Until then, Orton is right where he belongs; fulfilling his veteran duties.
