Fantasy Football Week 14: Chris Johnson and Stars You Just Can't Trust

Michael DixonDec 9, 2011

At this point of the season, you can't mess around. You're probably already in the playoffs. If not, you're one week around.

What that means is that you can't afford a bad week from anyone. So, these stars need to be benched.

The matchups aren't there for any of these players to have even decent weeks, let alone good weeks.

Dwayne Bowe

There's really no reason to feel confident about Bowe this week. With Tyler Palko throwing the ball, there's actually no reason to feel confident in him for the rest of the year. This week, there's even more reason to bench him.

That reason is Darrelle Revis.

Revis is a tough matchup for the game's best receivers who have elite quarterbacks throwing them the ball. Bowe is one of the top receivers in the game, but Palko would be foolish to throw the ball towards Revis Island. If he does, the Chiefs will be sorry.

In all, this is just a bad play. Receivers need quarterbacks to have fantasy value. Bowe doesn't have that and is now against the best cornerback in the league.

Beanie Wells

The 49ers just don't allow anything to opposing running backs. Wells has had a few good weeks in a row now, but San Francisco has shut down better backs than him all season.

Until San Francisco allows a 100-yard rusher or a rushing touchdown, no back should even be considered against them.

On top of that, the 49ers are just a better team. The Cardinals' best chance at winning this game revolves around them throwing the ball, notably to Larry Fitzgerald. Nothing goes in Wells' favor this week.

Chris Johnson

There's one glaring problem with Johnson this week: The New Orleans Saints are on an incredible hot streak. They aren't just winning games, they're blowing teams out and doing so early.

When you fall behind that early in a game, the running game becomes irrelevant. That's what the Titans are looking at this weekend.

While I know that the Titans aren't bad, the Saints' recent hot streak includes convincing wins against other strong teams. They're not just beating up on the league's worst.

As a result of that, Johnson's numbers will dramatically suffer. He's back, but this week will be a break in his return to strong play.
