Dwight Howard Lakers: Chris Paul Fiasco Should Have Lakers Key in on Superman
If you take a moment to wade through the awful mess made by David Stern, you will see the Lakers have only one option left to them, and that's trade for Dwight Howard.
On Thursday night, a mega deal was agreed upon, killed, paused and is currently sitting in purgatory. Chris Paul should by all rights be headed to Los Angeles, and a great deal of assets should be on their way to New Orleans.
However, we live in a world that doesn't make sense. As Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports, the owners were good and mad that a league-owned team would give the Lakers such a talented player.
So the deal that rocked the world is only continuing to shake the confines of the Los Angeles area. Lamar Odom, a key piece in the Paul trade, issues this tweet after the deal went south.
Yes, it is safe to say there are going to be a whole lot of sour pusses at training camp when it opens. The Lakers front office is scrambling right now trying to figure out how to make this right. The solution is simple, trade for Dwight Howard.
You still have the trade pieces to send to Orlando, all you need is the will to push it across the table once again, with the Magic being the team this time around.
Thunder beat writer Darnell Mayberry tweeted this around the time the CP3 deal died.
You can bet that the Lakers are in play. They can still send off Gasol and Odom to the Magic in return for Howard and the horrid contract of Hedo Turkoglu.
While this was never the first choice, the NBA's death knell on the Paul trade has all but made it necessary.
Odom will feel disrespected and so will Gasol. This team is built for melodrama, and the Lakers hardly needed another sordid affair to drum up bad feelings.
I fully expect the Lakers to make amends on this deal. But they can't go after Paul. The decline of this trade has all but locked up Paul into house arrest for the season.
There is only one way to turn now, and that's towards Orlando.
