Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins: Spread Info, Line and Predictions

Eric BowmanDec 8, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles look end their two-game losing streak this weekend when they hit the road against the Miami Dolphins

This hasn't been quite the season either team hoped for, but the Dolphins are feeling much more confident than they were just over a month ago.

Miami has won four of their last five games, each of them being blowouts. This was a team that looked awful at the beginning of the year and many wondered if they'd even win a game.

As for the Eagles, this is certainly a season to forget. There were high hopes this so called "Dream Team" would win it all, but sloppy play combined with injuries to key players has been their downfall.

With that said, let's take a look at some specifics of this Week 14 showdown.

When: Sunday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 p.m. ET

Where: Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL

Watch: FOX

Spread

The Dolphins are favored at -3, which is about right. They're playing at home and with their offense playing really well as of late, there's a chance they easily beat Philadelphia.

However, the Eagles will be better prepared this week, and with starters returning from injury they'll make sure they get the victory.

Over/Under

The over/under is set at 45, and I like the over here. Both teams have proven this year that they can score at all will, and that's exactly what will happen.

Defense won't be a force on Sunday afternoon, as both offenses shine bright.

Key Injuries

For the Eagles, according to CBSSports, QB Michael Vick (ribs), DT Trevor Lewis (knee) and CB Nnamdi Asomugha (concussion/knee) are listed as probable. WR Jeremy Maclin (hamstring/shoulder) and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle) are questionable.

For the Dolphins, according to CBSSports, S Yeremiah Bell (foot) was a limited participant in practice this week and is listed as questionable.

Fantasy Big Plays

If Vick does end up starting on Sunday like expected, then he should be in your lineup. Of course, if you have a backup QB you also feel comfortable starting, then go with him because there's always that chance Vick gets hurt again.

Still, there's no denying what Vick can do on the field, and that's why you should start him if you have no other solid option. If you managed to make it to the playoffs in your fantasy football league despite Vick being injured, then kudos to you.

DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy are also worthy of starts, as both players know how much they're needed this week. Riley Cooper is a definite sleeper here as well. He's thrived the past two weeks, but with Vick coming back he could see a decrease in production, it's tough to tell.

As for the Dolphins, Matt Moore is a good start, but only in deeper leagues. If you're in a standard 10-team league, I really hope Moore isn't the starter you're relying on.

Reggie Bush should continue his streak of good games as well. The Eagles have had trouble with running backs all year, and Bush has really started to find a groove with the team. Miami knows his value, and they'll make sure he gets plenty of opportunities.

Keys to Philadelphia Win

The Eagles have to avoid turning the ball over. The more chances they give the Dolphins, the more likely they'll lose their third game in a row.

The defense must find a way to limit Bush as well as Brandon Marshall. If Vick gets injured again, Vince Young has to takes the game serious and focus on doing his job. Mental mistakes have cost the team so much this year.

McCoy and Jackson need to make big plays to help keep the pressure off of Vick.

Keys to Miami Win

The Dolphins' defense is allowing an average of 10 points per game in their last five contests, and that type of play needs to continue.

The offense will be able to move the ball against Philadelphia, but it's up to the defense to prevent the Eagles playmakers from having a monster performance.

If Moore can manage the game well, eliminate turnovers and make a big throw or two, the Dolphins have a great shot at winning.

Prediction

Even though both teams are 4-8, this will be a good game to watch. A hard fought battle for all four quarters, the Eagles will walk away victorious thanks to the clutch performances of Vick and McCoy late in the game.

Miami will put up a good fight, but in the end, the speed of the Eagles stars will help lead to a much-needed win for Philadelphia.
