New Orleans Saints vs. Tennessee Titans: Spread Info, Line and Predictions

Wes ODonnellDec 8, 2011

The New Orleans Saints didn't imagine that their trip to play the Tennessee Titans would be a matchup with a potential playoff team, but here we are 14 weeks into the season and that is exactly what it is.

Tennessee is chasing the Houston Texans in the AFC South. They are also in the hunt for the AFC Wild Card.

The Saints, meanwhile, sit atop the NFC South with a two-game lead and, failing that, have dominant lead in the wild-card race.

Where: LP Field, Nashville, Tennessee

When: Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1:00 p.m. EST

Watch: FOX, DirecTV 713

Spread: Saints -4

This line would be about -9 if the Saints were at home, but they're only 2-4 against the spread in road games this season. The other three points account for Tennessee's home-field advantage.

New Orleans have covered its last four—but three of them were at home and the away game was a pick 'em.

The Titans, however, haven't covered against a playoff-worthy team in the last seven weeks.

New Orleans is rolling.

Over/Under: 48.5

The two teams have combined to hit the over only 10 times this season. That said, the Titans were blown out at home by the Texans and didn't cover 48 points. If things happen in a similar way with New Orleans (and they might), a 41-7 game still goes under.

Key Injuries

No significant injuries for either team. They are two of the healthiest clubs in the league right now.

Fantasy Big Plays

Start 'Em: Drew Brees, QB, Saints

Do you really want to risk not riding this train?

Start 'Em: Jimmy Graham, TE, Saints

Again, do you really want to risk not riding this to victory?

Sleepers: Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Titans

The Saints give up a ton of yards through the air and don't get their hands on a lot of interceptions, either.

Key to Saints Win

Ride the train. The Saints are on a four-game winning streak and just need to keep playing the way they have been. At 9-3, they're one game behind the 49ers in the NFC hunt for the No. 2 seed. Potentially forcing everyone but the Packers through New Orleans gives them a huge advantage in the postseason.

Drew Brees and the Saints offense just needs to avoid one of their classic letdown games (i.e. Rams Week 8).

Key to Titans Win

Play desperate. Tennessee's locked in a wild-card race with the Jets, Raiders and Bengals. They have tie breakers over the Jets and Raiders—but this is not a conference game and that doesn't do anything for them, other than potentially hurt their overall win-loss total.

Tennessee needs to treat every game like it is a playoff game from here on out. That is a daunting task with four games to go, but is the reality of the situation.

If they play like there is no tomorrow, the Titans can win this game.

Prediction: Saints 27, Titans 14
