Seattle Mariners: Do Not Let Pujols Signing Take You off Course

Please stay on course Seattle. 

Do not panic. 

Do not feel like you have to make a move. 

Stick with your current plan and things will turn out just fine. 

The Mariners had a minuscule chance to compete in 2012 before, now with the Angels signing Pujols and Wilson, an even smaller likelihood to compete at all. And this is fine with me. 

Many teams would hear the news of these MONSTER contracts being signed within their division and automatically hop into defense mode. By this I mean Jack Z getting on the horn and giving everything he’s got to bring Prince to the Emerald city. Please don’t. 

The Mariners have a plan and I believe signing Fielder is abandoning that plan. Yes, of course signing Prince would be great for such an anemic lineup, but would it be enough for the M’s to compete right away? 

No chance. 

Especially now that the Angels have made these moves, it will only add to the difficulty in the A.L. West. So what is the point of spending a TON of money on Fielder when he most likely won’t help them win the West anyway? 

For the M’s to throw out millions of dollars to go and sign Prince would be silly. Stay on the course Seattle. Build around the players you have now and don’t be distracted by extravagant moves being done by teams you compete with on the regular. 

Keep bringing in young talent.

Build around King Felix.

Keep believing in Justin Smoak. 

Let Dustin Ackley continue to thrive. 

If we stay on course, by the time Pujols and the Angels and Hamilton and Rangers are on the decline, we will be on the incline and in prime position to take over the A.L. West. 

Please don’t get distracted by all this Anaheim news Jack Z. Stick with the plan.
