5 Teams That Need to Target Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon in 2012 NFL Draft

Zach KruseDec 8, 2011

It comes as no real surprise, but Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon told ESPN.com Wednesday that he plans to declare for the 2012 NFL draft.

Widely regarded as the top receiver in college football, Blackmon caught 113 passes for Oklahoma State this season as he helped the Cowboys win the Big 12 Championship and secure a spot in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Blackmon will certainly be a wanted man this April with so many teams in need of a playmaker at receiver. On the following slides, we'll run down the top five teams that need to go after Blackmon in the 2012 NFL draft.

St. Louis Rams

1 of 5

A 2-10 team obviously has holes in other areas of the roster, but the stunning lack of weapons for quarterback Sam Bradford has been painful to watch over the last two seasons.

If the Rams want Bradford to take the next step—you could argue he's regressed this season—then they need to bring in a big-time receiver. Drafting Blackmon would accomplish that.

Minnesota Vikings

2 of 5

The Vikings need help along the offensive line and in the secondary, but they could also add playmakers for rookie quarterback Christian Ponder on the outside.

Minnesota really lacks a true No. 1 receiver despite signing Atlanta cast off Michael Jenkins. Percy Harvin is also better used as a slot receiver, so bringing in a guy like Blackmon would allow Harvin to be better used within the offense.

Cleveland Browns

3 of 5

Greg Little is a nice receiver prospect, but the Browns simply lack any other consistent threat outside. While running back is another big issue, teams have gone away from drafting backs high in the first round.

If the Browns decide on improving the receiver depth chart, Blackmon would be a good fit.

Jacksonville Jaguars

There may be no other team in the NFL that needs the services of a big-time receiver more than the Jaguars. Jacksonville's passing offense is the worst in the league, and a major reason for that is a lack of any dangerous receivers on the roster.

To help aid Blaine Gabbert's development (if they stick with him), the Jags simply have to add some help. Blackmon might be the best available option for upgrading the passing game.

Washington Redskins

5 of 5

The only way I say Blackmon is an option for the Redskins is if Washington goes out and gets a free-agent quarterback. That position is their top need otherwise and the 2012 quarterback class is deep and talented.

But if the Redskins do grab an upgrade at quarterback in free agency, Blackmon becomes an option to help speed up the development of the passing game. Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney are both past their primes.
