Week 14 Fantasy Football Rankings: Looking at the Top TEs
Haven't guys like Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski and Jermichael Finley made the tight end a marquee and swagger-filled position in the NFL today?
Actually, they're following the trend set by Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez.
Who's covering a 6'6'', 260-pound former Division I double-double guy or someone with a similar build that has baseball mitt-sized hands?
No one.
Let's take a look at Week 14's best fantasy tight ends.
Rob Gronkowski
1 of 3When you face the Patriots, you know Brady is looking for Gronkowski—especially in the red zone, but it doesn't matter.
He had two touchdown catches last week in the win over the Colts and has a ridiculous 13 scores on the season.
Add that to the fact that he's fifth in the NFL in overall targets with 90, and averages 14.3 yards per catch on the season.
The Redskins don't have a bad defense, but Jason Witten, who is in a similar class, had 85 yards and touchdown against Washington in Week 11.
Antonio Gates
2 of 3What a matchup for Gates this weekend when the Bills come to sunny San Diego.
Buffalo has traditionally had problems with opposing tight ends and they enter the game with 17 sacks, the least in the NFL.
One of the biggest issues with the Chargers offense this year has been the perpetual pressure opponents have applied on Philip Rivers.
It has forced him into hurried decisions and late throws, typically resulting in either an incompletion or an interception.
He should have time on Sunday and will be throwing the ball frequently against one of the more susceptible secondaries in football.
Safety George Wilson will likely return for the Bills, but Gates should have a big day regardless.
Jimmy Graham
3 of 3Rob Gronkowski may be ultimately more productive than Jimmy Graham, but the former Miami Hurricanes basketball player is the most skilled tight end in football today.
NBA-type athleticism.
Makes sense, right?
We always hear that some tight ends run like wide receivers, but Graham really does.
He can make cuts in his routes quicker than any other guy I've ever seen at his size and he's got tremendous hands.
Against the Titans, you know Brees will be looking for him.
A lot.
He already been targeted 104 times in 2011.
