WWE Raw: Can Brodus Clay Live Up to the Hype Surrounding His Return?

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 8, 2011

One of the more interesting stories in the WWE right now is the constant delay in the debut of Brodus Clay on Raw.

Clay has been seen on NXT and SmackDown in the past. However, he was taken off TV and built up through hype videos, which show his domination over those superstars he has faced so far.

Every week that the WWE decides not to bring Clay out, the more fans talk about him. While they may not have intended to hold out for this long, it is certainly working to their advantage.

I cannot remember the last time a rookie had this kind of following without really doing anything to deserve it other than not wrestling.

With all this hype surrounding the behemoth, one has to wonder if the former enforcer for Alberto Del Rio can take the ball and run with it.

Clay is another huge wrestler that the WWE can add to the ranks of Big Show, Mark Henry and Ezekial Jackson, but those three men barely get the credit they deserve as it is.

These days, people like excitement. Generally, this means the bigger guys have to work even harder to get fans on their side.

Every one of Mark Henry and Big Show's matches over the last few months have been good, but they are continually met with criticism.

Unless Clay is like Umaga and has superhuman agility for his size, he may end up disappointing some of the fans who don't warm to the giants of the WWE.

I have seen Clay's work and—while he is indeed talented—he is nowhere near ready for the main event.

My hope is for Clay to succeed, but I think he may be becoming a victim of his own hype. What do you think? Can Brodus Clay live up to all this hype?
