9 Bandwagons to Join in the World of Sports

Brandon ReiterDec 8, 2011

Attention people who:

A) Have been rooting for a miserable sports franchise for a number of years;

B) Are new to following sports;

C) Are completely unfaithful to their team when they are in a dry spell;

D) Want to switch things up a bit;

or

E) Are front runners but won't admit their front runners.

If you fit any of the following descriptions above then gather around, because you are going to want to listen to which are the hottest bandwagons to jump on in the world of American sports.

Now these teams aren't necessarily the best teams, rather they are the most exciting teams to watch, or they have the most exciting fan bases to join.

Miami Marlins

1 of 9

New jerseys, new logo, new team.

The Miami Marlins have taken incredible steps towards being perhaps one of the best teams in the National League. With offseason signings of Jose Reyes, Mark Beuhrle and Heath Bell, the Marlins are adding onto the recently renowned sports capital that is existing in Miami.

Just look at the colors of their brand new logo and tell me that just don't shout "excitement."

Cam Newton

2 of 9

The Cam Newton Bandwagon all started when he went undefeated and won the Heisman at Auburn. He was then projected to be a fallout in the NFL but has prove many wrong along the way. He is now a human highlight real in Carolina as he has given Panthers fans the most excitement they've seen in years.

If you want to root for a team that will score on fancy plays, or monster runs by an athletic quarterback, join the Newtonmobile

New York Knicks

3 of 9

If you live in New York and are only concerned with the Yankees and the Jets/Giants, here's something you might want to hear!

Basketball is on the rise in New York. With the additions of Carmelo Anthony and A'mare Stoudemire, the Knicks have made drastic changes towards being a championship contender. Now is the perfect time to start becoming a Knicks fan. Even more recently the Knicks have signed center Tyson Chandler, a void that needed some filling in New York. If they sign Chris Paul then they could be a team to beat.

Why take a break between January and April? The Knicks will finally be a worthy team to root for.

Oklahoma City Thunder

4 of 9

The Thunder perhaps have the most collegiate-like atmosphere in all of sports.

With the white towels going crazy after electrifying dunks by Kevind Durant or Russel Westbrook, the fan base in OKC is ecstatic. Seeing this team on television kind of makes you wish you were a Thunder fan. So, if you don't have a team yet join the Thunder Bandwagon, and you will like what you see.

I'd say the Thunder are one player away from being one of those "super" teams.

Georgia Bulldogs

5 of 9

Do you go to a college with a miserable athletics program? Are you looking for a team to root for on Saturdays next year? Well, the Georgia Bulldogs are right for you!

They are not the typical powerhouse like Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama or LSU, but next year they will be scary good. With Aaron Murray and Isiah Crowell returning, these two can ignite perhaps an even better offense than what Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno led a few years ago.

Tim Tebow

6 of 9

Some people hate him, and some people love him.

Here are reasons why you should love him:

He can win (6-1 this season).

He is unorthodox (most rushing attempts in a game for a QB).

He loves Jesus.

Tebow is a good model for young athletes. He is honest and shows that he does all he can to be his potential on the football team. He caught my eye ever since his famous speech in Gainsville after his Gators were upset my Ole Miss. "You will never see a team work harder," and he lived up to his promise as the Gators went on to win the national championship.

And even today, he is not listening to the countless amount of haters, as he continues to win week after week for the Broncos.

Harvard Crimson

7 of 9

So what if you can't get into Harvard, it can actually be very fun to root for them to pull of an upset in every game they play. So far this basketball season the Crimson have shocked many people as they beat FSU, and pushed their way up to No. 24 in the rankings. This marks the first time Harvard has been ranked in school history.

Yeah, yeah, they lost to UCONN, but let's not take this for granted: Harvard can be one of those George Mason teams, and you're going to want to say you "called it." So if you're looking to root for "the little guys" then Harvard looks like a fun Cinderella team to stand behind.

Penn State Nitany Lions

8 of 9

Penn State is one of those iconic football programs that is fun to be a part of. They are centered in a town that revolves around its football team. They are led by a legendary coach who has built a historic program.

I had you going for a second ...

I guess I could have wrote that about a month and a half ago, but unfortunately not today.

If you are looking to jump on a bandwagon, you should definitely not consider Penn State.

Here are other teams you should not root for:

LA Lakers, Miami Heat, NY Mets, any college football team not in a major conference and the Boston Red Sox (who fires a manager that won two World Series?... besides the Yankees).

Kentucky Wildcats

9 of 9

On a serious note ...

A real good team to root for is the Wildcats. Run by an energetic young group of freshman, the Wildcats are tearing it up early in the season. I can predict that Kentucky will not win it all this year, but definitely in years to come. As we have seen, a team led by freshman will not prevail (Wall and Cousins), but if those freshman grow into sophomores, and hopefully juniors, then watch out, or else Kentucky might turn into the new Ball So Hard University.
