MLB Free Agents 2012: Marlins Will Be Just Fine After Pujols Swing and Miss

Gabe ZaldivarDec 7, 2011

Albert Pujols is the best hitter in decades. He is a joy to have in the locker room and a blessing to have on the field. He is also not going to be playing for the Miami Marlins, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Marlins fans may have had their hopes up when Pujols was struck with dire consternation this week. Miami put forth one hell of an offer, but have decided they can't wait for Pujols' soul searching, or whatever he is doing right about now.

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick tweets what should have been received with some sighs by Miami fans. I only have one thing to tell you.

Get over yourselves. This is going to be a very good team and it has everything to do with the Marlins missing out on Albert Pujols. Somehow, the hack at Pujols has worked for Miami as they pulled from the table to search for pitching, the real need for this organization.

With Pujols off the brain, the Marlins were able to concentrate on getting some more talent on the bump. Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald reports the Marlins will sign southpaw free agent Mark Buehrle.

If you are a fan of strikeouts, you will like this rotation which also includes Josh Johnson, Anibal Sanchez, Ricky Nolasco and Chris Volstad. The key in the offseason was adding more arms, because really, you can't trust that Johnson will make it through the season healthy.

The team may still go after pitching, but as it is, the Marlins have a solid rotation to go along with sluggers abounding on the field.

With Pujols, the Marlins would have tied up all their cash into signing him to a huge deal. Any pitching they received would have come from shopping Gaby Sanchez, or possibly even Hanley Ramirez

This new-look team will no doubt continue to bust out the wallet during the winter meetings. The scary part for the eastern seaboard is that they are already a squad flush with talent.

If Ramirez moves to third, the top of that lineup has to be among the best in baseball. If you want to know how good the winter is going for the crew from Miami, consider they just lost out on Pujols and still managed to win.
