NFL Week 14 Picks: Playoff Pretenders That Will Be Exposed

Michael DixonDec 7, 2011

The playoff races are becoming clearer in each league, but there's still a lot to be determined. Fortunately for those people looking for even more clarity, this week will make the picture look pretty solid.

Even if they'll still be okay in the standings, these teams will be exposed this weekend. It won't just be in these games, they will all struggle down the stretch.

I can't exactly say that I understand how this has happened, but the Titans' 7-5 record has been good enough to earn them a spot as playoff contenders. This week, the Saints are going to give them a tough contest.

Actually, the Saints are going to flatten the Titans. They are red hot and just have too much offensive punch for the Titans to keep up with. Yes, Chris Johnson is coming on, but the Titans' offense is just not good enough to keep up.

The Titans do have games against the Colts and Jaguars, but finish against the Texans in Houston. They won't get to the playoffs against a cluttered AFC playoff picture.

Prediction: Saints 34, Titans 16

It's not that they embarrassed themselves. The Giants have had chances against good teams, but they are on a four-game losing streak. In reality, they will need to sweep the Cowboys to have any chance at winning the division.

That's just not going to happen. Their secondary doesn't match up to Dallas' weapons. This week, the two teams lock up in Dallas, and that will essentially end the division race.

The Giants will put points on the board, but not nearly enough. The Cowboys will win and do so convincingly. It won't be official, but the NFC East race will be done this weekend.

Prediction: Cowboys 31, Giants 21

The Bears do match up relatively well to Tim Tebow, but that's only one side of the ball. With no Jay Cutler and no Matt Forte, they just won't be able to move the ball enough to put points on the board.

On top of the injured players on their team, the Bears are also facing a defense that's showing significant improvements every week.

When the Broncos have the ball, Willis McGahee will lead the attack and Tim Tebow will do enough to put his team over the edge. It seems like we've heard that game plan a few times this year. It will work for at least another week.

Prediction: Broncos 24, Bears 14
